We're looking forward to starting new topics!
Welcome back, we hope that you had a good Easter break and the children are looking forward to starting Term 5.
Our first two weeks of maths will be all about length and height. This week we will be learning how to measure using non-standard measures, such as cubes and lolly sticks. Our estimations skills will be put to good use as we will be making estimates before making our measurements. The children will practise using their skills on items all around the classroom, such as books, stools, glue sticks and pencils. We will be working on solving problems too.
In our English lessons we are looking at stories from a range of cultures, starting with a traditional tale from India called Monkey-See, Monkey-Do, retold by Hugh Lupton. The children will be engaging with the text through role play and discussion and develop their understanding of the emotions of the characters. They will, of course, be writing sentences too, remembering capital letters, full stops and conjunctions, as well as using descriptive language!
In PE we will be starting to learn our dance for our school May Day celebration.
BUG CLUB AND MATHLETICS
There are lots of new books available for the children to enjoy on the Bug Club website. Mathletics is also a great way for the children to practise their maths skills. If you have difficulty accessing either of these websites, please talk to your child's class teacher.
