Orange classes are looking forwards to seeing you all on Tuesday 5th September for the start of the new term.

We hope you have all had lovely summer holidays and are rested and ready to start the new term!

As this will be your children's first week in Key Stage 1, we will be doing lots of activities this week to help them settle into their new classrooms and routines. We will help the children develop their confidence as they start their journey in the National Curriculum.

During our learning this week we will be recapping and revisiting learning from Red Class so that we can move forwards together to develop your children's skills. We will be introducing the children to full lessons gradually throughout the week building up the amount of time spent in 'formal' learning so that they can adjust to the different way of working in Year 1. Foundation subjects will be introduced in the coming weeks and this week we will be concentrating on Maths, Phonics, English and Handwriting with a bit of 'Plan and Do' and PE thrown in to the mix.

In Maths we will be practicing our counting, recognition of numerals and ordering numbers (place value). This will give us a baseline so as to know what areas we need to develop with your children before moving them on. This term will focus heavily on place value as it forms a major basis for the rest of the Year 1 Maths Curriculum. Early in the term we will be giving you all mathletics logins so that you can practice the Maths we have learnt in class with your children at home in a fun and interactive way.

In English lessons we will be practising writing our names using careful letter formation. We will also be learning all about labels and making our own labels for our classrooms, not forgetting revisiting and practising all of the phonemes (phonics) the children learnt in Red Class. Reading books will be sent out each week for your children to practice their reading at home, alongside library books for them to share with you. We will also be giving out Bug Club logins later this term as a different and fun way of practice phonics and reading skills at home.

In the afternoons we will be exploring our classrooms and getting to know where everything is kept. We will be learning about our classroom rules, learn about the differences between Red Class and Orange Class and generally settling in.

If you have any questions or queries about this year please do ask your class teacher at the end of the day or pop a note in your child's contact book.

We are really looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday and here is to a fantastic Year 1.
