Week beginning 20th February
Back to it with a short week, but plenty of time to introduce our new topics for this term.
Science is electricity, where we start by learning some terms to build up our knowledge before embarking on the more practical side of making circuits, while history is titled ‘family life across the ages’, which will be a whistle-stop tour through over 2500 years, starting this week in 800BC at the start of the Iron Age.
In English, we start a two-week unit on fairy tales, using The Princess and the Pea by Lauren Child and The Pea and the Princess by Mini Grey as our focus texts. This week we look at their features, the differences and similarities of the contrasting texts before thinking about how we could put our own twist on a traditional tale. In maths, we look back at the quick recall of our tables, reminding the children of some tricks and shortcuts, before using them in our calculations.
PE returns to Monday and Fridays, with volleyball and dance our topics. The Monday session will hopefully be outside, so please make sure that warm tracksuit type clothing is available. Swimming will also continue on Fridays, with Friday 17th March being the final session of the year.
Some forthcoming dates to be aware of include Friday 24th February for the PTA Quiz Night, Thursday 2nd March dress up for World Book Day, followed by a book fayre the following day. Parents consultations are on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th March and you may remember that we have split the Easter church service, with ours being at 9:30am on Friday 31st March, which is also the last day of term.
Congratulations to Archie who received our behaviour award for the last week of Term 3.
